Engineer Bryce Goggin has exerted a profound influence on my psyche without my knowing. These past months have been a gradual coming to light of this fact: I love Bryce Goggin. This is perhaps the most obscure crush I've ever had, and certainly the least sexual (as far as I can tell).
I read an interview with Bryce Goggin in TapeOp a couple months back where I learned of his involvement with mixing and engineering Pavement, by sheer force of will transforming the engineering disaster of Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain into a mixing masterpiece.
I then had a dream about Bryce Goggin when taking a nap one day. I dreamt that I heard a voice downstairs which, by the rules of dream logic, I recognized as belonging to Bryce. I went downstairs and we chatted. He was quite friendly and had some ideas about mixing Heights that I forgotten upon waking.
Today, while looking at my bargain bin Chavez "Gone Glimmering" CD, I noticed for the first time that he recorded and mixed many of the tracks on that record, as well as one of my absolute favorite records "Ride The Fader."
Bryce is an unsung hero of independent music. I shall add him to my dream team of Roger Moutenot and Greg Calbi. One day the dreamer must awake!
